A Glance Of Terengganu State Museum
Allow me to talk about Terengganu State Museum as part of my
Terengganu Series story. This museum is located along Kampung Losong in Kuala
Terengganu. I got the interest to feature this in my blog as part of my
personal #JomataraletsSupportLocal campaign when I saw a social media post from
my auntie-in-law during her visit here a few months ago last year. I was given
the permission to use her photos to be part of this blog of mine.
It was really educational to look around and understand the
hidden gems inside this Museum. Technically this Museum was said to be the largest
museum in Malaysia with a massive floor area of over 75,000 square meters
spread over 4 interconnected buildings.
The building in this museum was said to be opened in 1996
and the walls were made out from creative craftsmanship that gives an impressive
look inside and outside the building.
This museum displays its antiques in 9 different
galleries:
a. Craft Gallery
This section display traditional local handicrafts. It
includes brass making, weaving, gold and silver ornaments, and weapons, especially
krises.
b. Natural History Gallery.
This area exhibits the rocks and minerals such as gold,
iron, ore, and coals. It also showcases various specimens of the flora and
fauna found in the state of Terengganu. This includes tigers, monkeys, bears, and more. Added variations to their displays include local insects, fish, and
other skeletons.
c. Royal Gallery
This section is where the family tree of the Terengganu
Royal Family is displayed. You can see their royal things, royal krises, palace
household items like crockery sets, medals, and gifts received from various
local and international stage.
d. Textile Gallery.
This area showcases the production of locally made textiles.
It also displays various examples of traditional garments worn during weddings
and other auspicious occasions. This gallery also showcases the normal outfit
during the olden times.
e. Islamic Gallery
This section showcases the arrival of Islam in the Peninsula
Malaysia particularly in the state of Terengganu. An exhibit of manuscripts and
ceramics is displayed with pictures of the architectural styles of various
beautiful mosques in the state.
f. Petroleum Gallery
This area was called to be a mini version of the Petronas
Museum in Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). It also represents an exhibit as to
why this gallery should be included as one of the highlights in the museum
since Malaysia’s oil is also found here.
g. Historical Gallery.
This section showcases the evolution of lifestyle in the
region from pre-historic times up to the present time. This area mainly
showcases different pottery and coins captured from the olden days.
h. Fisheries and Marine Gallery
This area showcases the fishing village concept. It exhibits
traditional fishing equipments and various types of boats.
i. Seafaring & Trade Gallery
This is located alongside the Terengganu River. It is made
out of wooden type and has been handcrafted in a traditional way. It actually
featured two life-sized sailing boats among the many maritime displays.
