With the ongoing
campaign about Earth Hour for the year 2021 despite the ongoing crisis brought by this
COVID-19 pandemic, a light-off event was held at the Topp on March 27, 2021. This event is to commemorate
the importance of saving energy for protecting our planet earth.
The general
objective of this movement is to stop the degradation of the earth’s natural
resources especially that Climate Change is real. It helps to protect the world. According to Asia Green Buildings, the
community can save up to 10 to 20 percent of their total household electricity
usage when turning off their light especially when not in use.
Friends
from the tri-media were present as we share together a one hour moment of “Lights
Off” with other guests from the Shopping Center. The event encouraged everyone
to be aware of this Earth Hour which is conducted every year and to encourage
the community to save electricity, especially when not in use.
Other activities
seen during the event was an Arts and Craft Workshop for the kids, a clown with a balloon
walkabout, and a Movie Screening. There were also a kids colorings section and a man-made chess game for everyone to enjoy with.
Booths from
SWCorp and SWM environment were also seen during the event where they showcased
their various recycled products. An Awareness Exhibitions showcasing recycled products by IKEA and Cerebral Palsy were all located
at the Topp.
The event
was flavored with good rendition songs from the Acoustic Band performances.
Their song was remarkably amazing that reminds the public that we can ”Heal the
World, make it a better place for you and for me”.
With the celebration
of the event, it aimed to drive a positive impact
on shoppers, tenants, and the local community about this campaign. Toppen’s ongoing Go Green effort, the mall is the LEED Core and Shell 2009 Platinum Certified winner awarded
on 28th of July 2020.
Toppen Shopping
Center aims to be more energy-efficient, by harnessing energy from the solar
panels installed on the roofs. With the open concept of the mall, it uses natural
lighting where no need to require electricity to lighten up the whole place.
The
mall also is using its Intelligent Building Management System that can help
to adjust the lightings and power accordingly to save energy consumption by the
shopping mall. Rainwater is also collected to be re-used by the mall.
Toppen was
opened in November 2019 and is one of the five anchored by-IKEA Shopping Centers
in Southeast Asia. This mall is 1.25 million square foot that is good for
meeting places anchored by the only IKEA store outside of the Klang Valley.
It's
rooftop known as the “The Topp” is the first of its kind community hub with everything
from skateboarding and rock climbing to alfresco dining and cinema.
