Melaka is known for its interesting and unique history. This city was founded by Parameswara, a prince from Palembang who was involved in a war for the succession of the Majapahit Empire during the late 14th century.

Accordingly, Parameswara asked one of his men, "What's the name of this tree that I was resting here?" "The Melaka tree, sir." replied one of his men. So, Parameswara decided to name the place Melaka.
