A Flavourful Discovery: Citarasa Pulau Pinang at Good Hope Hotel Skudai, Johor Bahru

As the holy month approaches, food lovers in Johor Bahru can look forward to a delightful culinary journey at Good Hope Hotel Skudai, Johor Bahru, where this year’s Ramadan theme, Citarasa Pulau Pinang, brings the vibrant and bold flavours of Penang right to the heart of Skudai.

During the recent media preview, we had the opportunity to explore what the hotel has thoughtfully prepared for the upcoming Ramadan season and it was truly a feast worth discovering.
The buffet experience begins with an impressive display of traditional appetisers. Guests are welcomed by a colourful spread of ulam-ulam kampung, green salads, and classic kerabu selections such as Kerabu Mangga Muda and Kerabu Ayam. Fresh, light, and full of local character, this section sets the tone beautifully before moving on to the heavier dishes.

Adding warmth to the spread are comforting selections like their Sichuan-style soup, the ever-popular Bubur Lambuk Warisan, and a delightful serving of Pengat Nangka. These dishes bring a sense of nostalgia and are perfect for breaking fast in a comforting way.
The main dishes section features a generous lineup of local favourites. Guests can enjoy dishes such as:
  • Nasi Lada paired with rich, flavourful curries
  • Chef Azalea’s Special Chicken Rice
  • Ayam Kurma dan Kentang
  • Nasi Goreng Thai
  • Ikan Masak Lemak Nenas
  • Daging Lembu Goreng Lada
  • Long Bean Belacan
One of the standout highlights is the Nasi Briyani Kambing, slow-cooked with fragrant spices and tender lamb that easily takes centre stage at the buffet.
One of the most exciting parts of the buffet is the live action station, where guests can watch chefs prepare dishes on the spot.

From rosemary lamb shoulder and satay sizzling over the grill, to Penang-style Char Kuey Teow freshly tossed in the wok, the aromas alone are enough to make you hungry. Guests can also enjoy live-prepared popiah, freshly fried samosas, and hot-off-the-grill otak-otak.

The Penang street food experience continues with Fruit Rojak, Penang Assam Laksa, Mee Curry, Mee Rebus, and even a lok-lok station complete with a variety of condiments  bringing authentic street food vibes into a comfortable hotel setting.
No Ramadan buffet is complete without desserts, and Good Hope Hotel certainly delivers. A beautifully arranged dessert spread ensures guests end their meal on a sweet note. Complemented by refreshing beverages, the buffet provides a satisfying and well-rounded dining experience from start to finish.

Even though this was our first time experiencing the buffet at Good Hope Hotel Skudai, it’s clear that they are offering excellent value this Ramadan season.

Buffet Pricing:
