BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu Launches, Enhancing Urban Mobility with Cashless Bus Services

April 1, 2026 | Kota Kinabalu:  A new chapter in urban mobility has begun in Kota Kinabalu as BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu officially launches its operations, introducing a modern, efficient, and people-focused approach to public transportation.

With the introduction of two key routes, S01 and S05, and a fleet of 10 buses now in operation, the initiative is set to enhance daily commuting while offering a more accessible way for residents to move around the city.

Driving Connectivity at the Right Time

The operation comes at a crucial time as global fuel prices continue to rise, prompting many commuters to seek more affordable transportation alternatives. BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu provides a timely solution offering a reliable and cost-effective service that helps reduce the burden of daily travel expenses.

Beyond affordability, the service also strengthens connectivity across key areas, making it easier for people to travel for work, education, and everyday needs.

Seamless Travel with a Fully Cashless System

One of the standout features of BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu is its fully cashless payment system, ensuring faster, safer, and more convenient transactions for passengers.

Commuters can enjoy a hassle-free journey using:

  • Kad Konsesi, offering free unlimited rides for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (OKU), and students
  • Kad 30 Hari, ideal for working individuals
  • Bank cards, including Visa and MasterCard
  • DuitNow, providing a flexible digital payment option

This transition reflects a broader shift towards modern, digital-first public services, enhancing the overall commuting experience.

Important Reminder: Tap In and Tap Out

According to information gathered from BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu bus drivers, passengers are required to tap in when boarding and tap out when alighting using their registered cashless cards or payment methods.

This includes:

  • Bank cards (ATM, Visa, MasterCard)
  • Registered concession cards (Kad Konsesi, Kad 30 Hari)
  • IC or cards linked to BAS.MY programmes (like ManjaLink)

Failure to tap out may result in passengers (non Kad Konsesi or Kad 30 Hari Holder) being charged the maximum fare for the entire route. For example, a journey that should cost RM2.00 could be charged up to RM5.00 if the passenger does not tap out properly.

Passengers are therefore strongly encouraged to always tap in and tap out to ensure accurate fare charges.

It is also important to note that all transactions onboard are strictly cashless. No cash payments are accepted, and all fares must be made via the card reader system on the bus.

For those who wish to register or obtain cashless travel cards, the bus service operation counter is available at the KK Sentral Bus Terminal for further information.

A Step Towards a Greener Future

BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu represents more than just a transport service, it reflects a commitment to building a greener and more sustainable city. By encouraging the use of public transport, the initiative helps reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions, contributing to a cleaner urban environment.

Community Support is Key

As operations begin from the KK Sentral Bus Terminal, the long-term success of BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu will depend on strong community support. Embracing public transport not only benefits individuals but also strengthens the city as a whole.

BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu is part of the government’s effort to improve public transportation under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Programme, led by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia. The programme in Sabah is overseen by the Land Public Transport Agency Sabah and operated by Jaguh Bayu Sdn Bhd.

With convenience, affordability, and sustainability at its core, BAS.MY Kota Kinabalu is poised to become an essential part of daily life in the city.
