Handal Indah Accelerates Smart Mobility in Southeast Asia at MPAP 2025 in Seoul

Seoul, 11 June 2025: Malaysia’s leading private bus operator, Handal Indah Sdn Bhd, the brand owner of Causeway Link, has reaffirmed its commitment to transport innovation by showcasing its digital transformation milestones at the Mobility Payments Asia Pacific (MPAP) 2025 conference in Seoul, South Korea.

Handy Santono, Head of Technology at HI Mobility Berhad — the innovation and digital solutions subsidiary of Handal Indah — delivered insights into the company’s journey toward a connected, cashless, and commuter-centric mobility ecosystem.

Founded in 2002 in Johor Bahru, Handal Indah began as a local bus service provider before becoming the first Malaysian company to offer cross-border services to Singapore. Today, with a fleet of over 700 buses across Peninsular Malaysia, the company connects over 3.5 million passengers every month across 10 key cities and towns.

In 2012, Handal Indah introduced the ManjaLink prepaid card and ManjaPay eWallet, enabling a fully closed-loop, cashless ticketing experience for commuters. Building on this foundation, the company partnered with Visa in 2022 to integrate EMV contactless payment systems into its buses — a significant milestone in transitioning to open-loop payments and a first for many Malaysian operators.

This digital leap has led to over 77% adoption of cashless transactions, helping the company streamline operations, reduce reliance on physical cash, and enhance commuter convenience.

Furthering its commitment to digital innovation, Handal Indah rolled out LUGO, a lifestyle mobility platform that centralizes trip planning, live bus tracking, and cashless ticketing into a single mobile app. Designed to simplify the daily commute, LUGO reflects the operator’s long-term vision of integrating digital tools into everyday transit.

With more than 70% of MPAP 2025 delegates representing key transit authorities, operators, and payment stakeholders from across the Asia Pacific, Handal Indah’s participation serves as a benchmark for Southeast Asian innovation in public transport.

“We’re proud to share our digitalisation journey with industry leaders across the region,” said Handy Santono. “It’s a testament to how local Malaysian companies can lead change, enhance passenger experiences, and contribute to more sustainable and connected cities.”
